English-Saho

Saho is a Cushitic language spoken by the Saho people in the Horn of Africa, primarily in Eritrea and parts of northern Ethiopia. It belongs to the larger Afroasiatic language family, specifically the Cushitic branch, which also includes languages like Somali, Afar, and Oromo. Saho has a significant number of speakers, estimated to be around 500,000 to 600,000 people. The language is an important part of the Saho people's identity and culture, and it is used in everyday communication, family life, and local traditions.

The Saho people live mainly in the coastal and highland areas of Eritrea and parts of Ethiopia, where Saho is spoken alongside other languages such as Tigrinya, Arabic, and Amharic. Although the majority of Saho speakers are bilingual, using other local languages for official, educational, and social purposes, Saho remains a key language within the community. It is used in oral traditions, music, and cultural expressions, as well as in informal settings. In Eritrea, Saho has also been recognized as a national language, and efforts to preserve and promote it continue, especially through community initiatives and local media.
